Cantata #            Title and Translation                                       Occasion(s)                            Comments

    24          O Gott, du frommer Gott (E)                                     General
O God, you faithful God
                              O God, you righteous God
                              you source of all gifts,
                              without whom nothing is that is
                              from whom we have everything,
                              grant to me a healthy body,
                              and that in such a body
                              there may remain a soul uninjured
                              And a pure conscience.

   75/7        Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan (E)                           General
                       What God ordains alone is right
                              What God does, that is done well.
                              If I have to taste the chalice
                              that I foolishly imagine is bitter
                              I shall not let myself be frightened,
                              since in the end I shall feel delight
                              and sweet consolation in my heart,
                              then all sorrows will vanish.

  75/14       Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan (E)                            General
                              What God does, that is done well.
                              I shall keep to this thought.
                              It may be that on the rough road
                              I shall be driven by distress, death and misery;
                              yet God will, just like a father, hold me in his arms;
                              therefore I let him alone rule over me.

   76/7        Es wohl uns Gott genädig sein (E)                             General
                              May it be God's will to be gracious to us
                              and give us his blessing;
                              may his face with radiant appearance
                              light us on our way to eternal life
                              so that we recognize his work
                              and what is dear to him on earth
                              and may the salvation and might of Jesus Christ
                              become known to the Gentiles
                              and may they turn to God!

  76/14        Es danke Gott, und lobe dich (E)                              General
                              May thanks, God, and praise be given to you
                              by the people in their good deeds;
                              the land produces fruit and is made better,
                              Your word prospers.
                              May the Father and the Son bless us,
                              May God, the holy spirit, bless us,
                              may the whole world honour him,
                              fear him above everything else
                              and say from the heart: Amen.

     79         Nun danket alle Gott  (E)                                  General/Thanksgiving
Nun danket alle Gott (down a step)
                  Now Thank We All Our God

                              Now all thank God
                              with heart, mouth and hands;
                              He does great things
                              for us and all our purposes;
                              He for us from our mother's womb
                              and childish steps countless great good
                              has done and still continues to do.

    105        Nun, ich weiß, du wirst mir stillen (E)                         General
                              Now I know you will quieten
                              my conscience, that torments me
                              Your faithfulness will fulfil
                              what you have said yourself:
                              that on this wide earth
                              no one should be lost but should live for ever,
                              if only he is full of faith.

    107        Herr gib, daß ich dein Ehre (ME)                                  General
                              Lord, grant that I your honour throughout my life
                              may increase from the bottom of my heart,
                              and give you praise and thanks
                              O Father, Son and Spirit
                              you who out of pure mercy
                              turn away distress and harm,
                              be praised for evermore!

    147        Wohl mir, dass ich Jesum habe (ME)                           General
                              What joy for me that I have Jesus,
                              oh how firmly I hold on to him
                              so that he may make my heart rejoice,
                              when I am sick and mournful.
                              I have Jesus, who loves me
                              and gives himself to me for his own.
                              Ah, therefore I shall not let go of Jesus,
                              even if my heart should break.

    147         Jesus bleibet meine Freude (ME)                                General
Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring
                              Jesus remains my joy,
                              the comfort and life's blood of my heart,
                              Jesus defends me against all sorrows,
                              he is my life's strength,
                              the delight and sun of my eyes
                              my soul's treasure and joy;
                              therefore I shall not let Jesus go
                              from my heart and sight.

    167         Sei Lob und Preis mit Ehren (E)                                  General
                              Praise and glory with honour be
                              to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit!
                              May he increase in us
                              what he promised to us in his mercy
                              so that we may trust firmly in him
                              depend completely on him,
                              sincerely rely on him,
                              so that our heart, spirit and mind
                              may cling to him resolutely;
                              Therefore we now sing:
                              Amen, we shall achieve this,
                              we shall believe from the depths of our heart.
